<h3>The opportunity </h3>
<p>St Mary’s redevelopment – together with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust’s Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals – are key sites in the UK Government’s Health Infrastructure Plan. </p>
<p>The case for developing on St Mary’s is a strong one. For 175 years, St Mary’s Hospital has been a leading provider of clinical care, education and research and, through its major trauma centre in particular, a key part of the health system for northwest London and the capital as a whole. But parts of the St Mary’s estate date back to 1845 and most of its facilities are at least 70 years old. Piecemeal development over the past decades has created multiple entrances and complex patient pathways. Without a complete overhaul of its facilities, there is a real risk to the provision of treatment at its current site. </p><h3>Our approach </h3>
<p>Lexica has been appointed to help deliver the St. Mary’s Hospital redevelopment within the NHS’s New Hospitals Programme.</p>
<p>We are working collaboratively with the appointed design team for the new St Mary’s Hospital and site masterplan. The new facility will provide urgent and emergency care, adult and paediatric services, planned and unplanned surgery in 20 operating theatres and 840 beds, including a 90-bed critical care unit, as well as obstetric and neonatal services and a private patients’ unit. </p>
<p>It will receive more than 300,000 outpatient attendances annually. The hospital will continue to be one of London’s four major trauma centres with a key role in major incident response. The development will take place alongside the existing fully operational hospital facilities, of varying age and functionality on a tight urban site with exacting town planning, traffic and logistical constraints.</p>
<p>Lexica’s project responsibilities include: </p><ul><li>Demand and capacity modelling in coordination with the ICS model</li><li>Clinical and functional brief and schedule of accommodation</li><li>Models of care and operational model development</li><li>Digital strategy including enablement of clinical models, operational models, sustainability and FM strategies</li><li>Sustainability strategy</li><li>FM strategy</li><li>Stakeholder engagement and visioning</li><li>Future readiness strategies including detailed and specific flexibility and adaptability planning</li><li>Collaborative working with design team and Trust redevelopment team to undertake feasibility studies, option appraisals, develop design and prepare OBC the scheme</li><li>Detailed phasing and decanting plans, including room by room scheduling of existing versus planned capacity at each stage or redevelopment</li></ul><h3>Our impact </h3>
<p>ICHT provides tertiary and secondary acute care from three hospital sites – St Mary’s, Hammersmith and Charing Cross. Currently we are responsible for Trust-wide clinical and functional briefs and schedules of accommodation, iteratively updating and detailing key models of care across the Trust, always taking into account ICS-wide implications.</p>
<p> ICHT has a prominent role within the Nort West London ICS and Lexica has supported the integration journey, helping to implement its Shaping a Healthier Future blueprint for clinical and financial sustainability and continue to develop the vision and plans. Models of care and demand and capacity modelling were developed at ICS level with our input, and were further detailed at Trust and facility level by Lexica. <br /></p>
<p>We continue to work with key stakeholders including clinical, nonclinical, patient representatives and design team to update and develop the vision and guiding principles for rebalancing services across its three acute sites and replacing infrastructure where it is no longer fit for safe and efficient delivery of clinical care. <br /></p>
